Abstract

A REVIEW OF RESEARCH ON THE SKILL LINE OF MATHEMATICAL LITERACY
It would not be wrong to say that in the changing and rapidly developing world of the 21st century, knowledge has also increased and changed with a similar momentum. Depending on this acceleration, the organization of information gains importance. In this period, when access to information becomes very easy, the main issue is experienced in the process of how this information will be processed. In overcoming this problem, functional literacy skills appear as a solution alternative. It can be said that mathematical literacy, which is one of these types, has an important function as a skill that can be transferred to daily life, researching, questioning, criticizing, reasoning on problems by thinking mathematically, and finally producing different solutions. In this context, it is aimed to examine in detail the determined dimensions of doctoral and master's theses on mathematical literacy. In the research, which was carried out with the document analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods, 64 graduate education thesis studies open to access in the YÖK thesis database were included. The data obtained in accordance with the criteria determined in accordance with the aims and sub-objectives of the research are presented in tables with frequency and percentage values. Based on the data obtained, it can be said that the interest in mathematical literacy skills has increased since 2015 with the effect of the change in education programs, which will also be reflected in academic studies. In addition, based on the examinations made on the mathematical literacy questions within the scope of the PISA application; It has been found in many studies that the majority of students have negative attitudes towards mathematics and they have anxiety about mathematics. It has been frequently emphasized in the thesis studies that the most effective way to increase the level of mathematical literacy in students is the activities that students actively participate in.
