Abstract

THE METHOD OF CRITICAL WRITING IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND A COURSE SYLLABUS PROPOSAL FOR TEACHING CRITICAL WRITING AT THE B2 LEVEL
This study investigates whether the critical writing method, one of the writing methods and techniques used to develop writing skills in teaching Turkish as a foreign language, can be applied. Additionally, it presents a course syllabus proposal for teaching critical writing at the B2 level. The study was conducted using the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods. To provide a foundation for the research, existing studies on critical writing skills in the relevant literature were examined. The findings indicate that writing is the last and most challenging skill to acquire in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. It is believed that individuals who achieve sufficient competence in writing also attain proficiency in the target language. Furthermore, individuals with critical reading and critical thinking skills are thought to develop their critical writing skills more rapidly. In teaching Turkish to foreigners, it is considered that learners at all levels can develop critical thinking and critical reading skills, whereas writing skills require a more advanced level. In this context, based on studies in the literature and the descriptors in the D-AOBM, it has been concluded that at the intermediate (B1) and advanced (B2, C1, C2) levels, learners can transform their critical thoughts into written texts through well-structured course syllabi tailored to the target audience. As a result, this approach enables learners to acquire analytical, interpretative, and evaluative skills, allowing them to gain a deeper perspective on events and situations. This study is limited to the critical writing method as a writing technique for improving writing skills in Turkish language teaching and to the proposal of a course syllabus for critical writing instruction at the B2 level.
