Abstract
VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF PROFESSION EXAMINATION WITH METAPHOR ANALYSIS
The aim of this research is to determine the perceptions of secondary school students studying at Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools in Elazığ city center, regarding the concept of profession, through metaphors. The phenomenology research design, which is one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 94 students studying in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of secondary education in Vocational and Technical Anatolian high schools in Elazığ city center in the 2024-2025 academic year. 16 of the students are studying in the field of Food and Beverage Services, 15 in the field of Accommodation and Travel Services, 15 in the field of Metal Technology, 10 in the field of Information Technologies, 10 in the field of Beauty and Hair Care, 8 in the field of Chemical Technology, and 20 in the field of Motor Vehicles Technology. Data were collected through an open-ended survey. In the survey, participants were asked to complete the sentence “Profession is similar to… because…”. The data were analyzed using the content analysis technique. In this context, the process of analyzing the metaphors developed by secondary school students studying in Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools was carried out in five stages: (1) naming the metaphors (2) classifying the metaphors (3) developing categories (4) ensuring validity and reliability (5) transferring the data to the computer environment. According to the findings of the research, the participants produced 41 valid metaphors regarding the concept of profession. These metaphors were then evaluated in terms of their common features and grouped under 5 different categories.
