Özet
Bu çalışmanın odağı Matematik ve Fen Bilimleri Eğitimi Bölümü ikinci sınıfında okuyan öğrencilerin uzaklık fonksiyonu ile ilgili kavramsal ve işlemsel bilgi düzeyleri ve aynı küme üzerinde farklı metriklere göre tanımlanan komşulukların ve onların grafiklerinin belirlenmesi üzerinedir. Nitel araştırma deseninin kullanıldığı çalışmanın verileri bir devlet üniversitesinde Matematik ve Fen Bilimleri Eğitimi Bölümüne devam eden 28 öğretmen adayına uygulanan 4 adet açık uçlu sorulara verilen yanıtlardan elde edilmiştir. Sorular birbirinden bağımsız iki alan uzmanı tarafından analiz edilmiş ve bulgular temalar altında sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda çoğu öğrencinin metrik tanımını yapabildikleri fakat tanımın uygulanması olan işlemsel kısımda bazı hatalar yaptıkları görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin bazılarının ise bir noktanın komşuluğunu belirlemede ve grafiğini çizip yorum yapmakta zorlandıkları gözlemlenmiştir.

Abstract
The focus of this study is on the conceptual and procedural knowledge levels related to the distance function of the students studying in the second grade of Mathematics and Science Education Department and the determination of neighborhoods and their graphs defined according to different metrics on the same set. The data of the study in which the qualitative research design was used was obtained from responses given to 4 open-ended questions applied to 28 teacher candidates who attended the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at a state university. The questions were analyzed by two independent field experts and presented under the findings. As a result of the research, it has been seen that most of the learners are able to make the metric definition but make some mistakes in the operational part of the definition. It has been observed that some of the students have difficulty in determining the neighborhood of a point and drawing and commenting on their graph.
