Abstract

EXAMINING OF THE SEQUENCE AND APPROACH IN THE TEACHING OF THE FIRST THREE BOW TECHNIQUES USED IN THE VIOLIN EDUCATION
This study was aimed at examining the first three bow techniques violin instructors teach when they begin violin education, the methods they use to teach these techniques and also the need for using an order during teaching these techniques. 37 lecturers participated from 20 universities in which the survey questionnaire was implemented. In line with the information in the questionnaire, It was understood that the bow techniques generally used by instructors are firstly “détaché”, secondly “legato” and third “staccato”. While teaching these techniques, it was found that most used methods are “Ömer Can Violin Education”, “Otokar Sevcik”, “Hans Sitt”, “Arthur Seybold”, “Mathieu Crickboom”, “Franz Wohlfahrt”, “Shinichi Suzuki”, “Jacques Féréol Mazas”, and “Ali Uçan”. In accordance with the findings, the implementation and examination on the violin students of the order violin instructors use were planned; then an experimental study, which consisted of a pre-test and post-test, was conducted on violin students. Afterwards, the results of this experimental study were analyzed. In the first analysis, the relationship between the total pre-test and post-test scores of lecturers was observed. Then, the relationship between three lecturers’ pre-test scores and the relationship between the same lecturers’ post-test scores were examined. When all the scores were analyzed, a high and positive correlation is observed between them.
