Abstract

TRACES OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN RUMELIAN FOLK SONGS
"Violence" is defined as the acts of destruction, demolition and damage which the human being does for various reasons. When the physical and psychological dimensions of violence, which is approached in various disciplines such as anthropology and sociology in the cultural sense in today's societies, are also taken into consideration, it is seen that violence is a social "phenomenon problem" open to discussions. In studies that mainly deal with violence, limits are determined based on the terminology of the related discipline. In this study, violence has been discussed with its narrow meaning and folk song texts with traces of physical violence against women were aimed to be analyzed in detail in terms of folklore and sociology. One of the striking features of folk songs in terms of folklore is that it reflects the world of emotions, social interactions, values inherited from the past and mass assumptions. With this in mind, in this study, Turkish folk songs of Rumelian were examined and folk song texts which mention violence against women were identified. There is no doubt that folkloric products (folk songs, Turkish poems, fairy tales, lullabies, legends, etc.) are known to include protest and rebellion as well as entertainment, cultural transfer etc. From this point of view, in a rather long period whose beginning is unknown, one of the media in which women voiced the violence they were exposed to directly or through metaphorical uses is the texts of folk songs.

Keywords
