Abstract
THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF SYRIAN IMMIGRANTS IN LABOR MARKETS IN TURKEY AND YALOVA SAMPLE
A civil war has been continuing in Syria since 2011. Therefore, many Syrian people have been migrating from the country to neighbor countries. More than 2 million people came to Turkey. Majority of them are living in camps prepared by Turkish Government. The Government has spent about 8 billion USD for the infrastructure of the camps and the needs of Syrian people. The other people who don’t stay in the camps are living some cities near to the border and İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Yalova.
The immigrants living in cities confront with some problems related to accommodation, education, health and working in Turkey. That is why, they want to move and live in the big cities or some cities that are near to the big one. Health services are given to all by the Central Government and accommodation is provided for poor immigrants by local authorities. Besides that, working permission is planned in order to make the immigrants socially and economically included in the short term.
The study has two sections. In the first part, the literature will be reviewed related to immigration. Also, the current situation and living conditions of Syrian immigrants will be examined in Turkey. In the second part, a survey done with Syrian immigrants in Yalova will be used. The data collected by the survey will be analyzed in order to understand how they make live and reach the labor market and working opportunities.
