Abstract


FROM REALITY TO FICTION: HÜSEYİN RACİ EFENDİ'S BEDRICA
Hüseyin Raci Efendi lived in the second half of the 19th century and worked as a teacher and mufti for many years in Eski Zağra, which is located within the borders of today's Bulgaria. The author, who includes historical and real events in most of his works, is mostly known for his work named Târihçe-i Vak'a-i Zağra. In this study, Hüseyin Raci Efendi's work called Bedrika, which was written in verse in 1894 and is about the conversion adventure of a Bulgarian girl, was tried to be evaluated in the context of reality and fiction. In this direction, firstly, the issues related to the reality of the outside world and literary reality were mentioned, the plot of Bedrika was briefly revealed and the documents that were found in the Presidency Ottoman State Archives and that proved the reality of the conversion event narrated in the work were conveyed. Afterwards, the archive documents obtained and Bedrika's plot were compared and the work was compared in the context of historical reality and literary reality. At the same time, prominent fictional structures in Bedrika were identified and tried to be conveyed.
