Abstract


TÜRKİYE’DE EKONOMİ HABERCİLİĞİNDE TARAFLI VE ÇARPITMA HABERCİLİĞİ ÖNLEMEDE FİNANSAL OKURYAZARLIĞIN ROLÜ
In the present study, primarily the manipulative news in the field of economic journalism and the directive effect of these news on the household consumption decisions are emphasized. In addition, the development of consumer decision-making in order to minimize the media impact and make independent consumption without guidance has been put forward. At this point, the term of 'financial literacy' which can be defined as referring to financial information in the decisions of the individual and the decision of consumption and investment considering the economic conditions is discussed. In Turkey, the media has a strong influence on the public and it is a necessity for households to reach impartial news and to make the right consumption decisions for economic growth both individually and socially. Altough this article emphasizes the importance of household access to news that contains information free of manipulation, it is predicted that it will contribute to the rise in financial literacy awareness and keeping the effect of manipulative news at minimum. Article content includes the definition of basic terms such as financial literacy, manipulative news and economic journalism and the explanation of the relation between these terms. In the article which was prepared by using secondary and tertiary data, the guiding effects of the media were analyzed using sample news content. As a result of the findings, it was predicted that improvement in financial literacy have a protective effect against manipulative news content and the society with high financial information and decision making abilities is also selective and questioning about media consumption. Therefore, developing a culture in which the public will avoid consuming the manipulative economic news is possible with the increase of financial literacy rate in individual and social sense.
