Abstract

TÜRKÇE ÖĞRETMENİ ADAYLARININ AKADEMİK KARİYER HEDEFLERİ ÜZERİNE BİR ARAŞTIRMA
Education is one of the fundamental elements that distinguishes individuals from other living beings and ensures the sustainability of social welfare. Teachers, being at the center of the educational process, constitute the most critical component of this system. This study aims to determine how pre-service Turkish teachers guide their career plans in line with the challenges they experience. Furthermore, the study examines the anxieties of these pre-service teachers, the difficulties they encounter during their education process, their plans for the future, and the knowledge levels as well as literature competence regarding the process of those considering an academic career. Designed with a qualitative research method, the data in this study were collected through a semi-structured interview form. The study group consists of a total of 60 undergraduate students, 30 female and 30 male, studying in their 2nd and 3rd years, determined by typical case sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods. As a result of the data analyzed using the descriptive analysis method, it was determined that the primary anxiety of the pre-service teachers is the appointment (assignment) process. Along with the candidates who do not give up their professional goals, it was found that there are also those who consider turning to different business sectors. It was observed that those planning an academic career remain in the minority; however, these candidates possess knowledge about academic processes and their mastery of the literature is at a sufficient level. Lastly, it was determined that the participants expressed opinions stating that improvements should be made in salaries and appointment quotas should be increased regarding professional expectations.
